A long-standing commitment of mine is to electrify local railway line infrastructure, specifically Shrewsbury to Wolverhampton. Electrification would mean quicker and greener journeys for commuters. However, electrification is expensive and competitive, and the entire country is begging for it to happen in every part. For context, 6,042 km of the mainline railway route is now electrified. This is 38.1 per cent of the total route length. Whilst I am still campaigning for full electrification, I am now more focused on securing smaller funding to bring about minor upgrades that would see trains moving faster. I am continuing to raise this project in the House of Commons Chamber and directly with ministers when I meet with them.
